Tories losing sleep…whilst Labour sleep soundly?

Wednesday, 5th May 2010.

Despite the rough ride that Gordon Brown has had these past couple of weeks the Great British Sleep Survey, the largest survey of its kind, has shown that Labour supporters are sleeping more soundly than their Tory counterparts, beating them by a clear 6 points in the sleep stakes. Whether this reflects Labour’s quiet confidence about tomorrow’s election or simply a ‘day and night’ Tory work ethic is unclear.

We analysed 1,047 completed responses to our Great British Sleep Survey collected during April. Subjects’ postcodes were mapped to the political party of their current (pre-2010 election) MP. We found an average global Sleep Score of 66% for Labour constituencies versus 60% in Tory areas.

Although these results are more fun than serious science, they highlight the very real sleep problems faced by many in the UK. Our sleep often suffers at times of personal stress and change, and we hope that the Great British Sleep Survey gives us the information we need to find new ways to help the whole nation sleep better at night.

Anyone who completes the 5 minute survey will receive a Sleep Score rating and a free personalised Sleep Report designed by Prof Colin Espie with information and advice on how to improve their sleep. Plus the data will be used to develop new cutting edge treatments for sleep problems.

I have suffered Insomnia for many years now and I have had no cure whatsoever. It is making my life quite unbearable, sometimes i have 4 hours maximum a day and I get irritable at times and it is not fair on my friends at all. I have had a course of Zopiclone 7.5mg sleeping tablets at one week intervals and they did make me sleep.
But, when I stopped taking them I cannot get too sleep at all. The first night was terrible because i did not go too sleep at all, it took 44 hours before i could go too sleep. I was too tired to do anything at all. I would be grateful if i could get help on the NHS and not private because i am on Incapacity Benefit. My Dr does not help me at all with this problem.
I do suffer from Depression which I take prescribed tablets for this. Please could someone help or Advise me what I should do before, it gets too unbearable because it is very annoying problem which many suffer from thank-you.
